"Hollywood" Thomas Pooler started the Feed Our Heroes Foundation in 2010 to help all American Veterans, disabled, senior, active and retired soldiers and their family and advocates.

“Feed Our Heroes” Coming November 26

The sixth annual Feed Our Heroes holiday dinner for Veterans, family and supporters takes place on November 26, 2016 at the Medway VFW Post 9684, located at 1587 N Lake Rd,New Carlisle, OH 45344. Every year the Feed Our Heroes foundation invites all veterans to gather in comradeship and solidarity.

The Feed Our Heroes foundation started in 2010, as a non-profit foundation to help all American Veterans, disabled, senior, active and retired soldiers and their family and advocates. The foundation holds the annual dinner as a simple way to say Thank You to those Americans who serve and protect our country, along with some great food, gifts and entertainment for the whole family.

The man who works year round to ensure that this event continues annually served seven years as a tank solider (tanker) in the Cold War. His given name is Thomas Pooler, but to his fellow soldiers and the community, he is only recognized as “Hollywood.” He is found throughout the community welcoming our Veterans home, comforting family members in their time of need and making sure that our communities, Veterans and their families do not go unacknowledged for their devoted service. It does not matter if it is a meal, or a safer entrance, Air conditioning for a senior Veteran. Simply doing these things is a matter of respect and wanting to help those that have helped the entire country.

The event, held yearly on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, is just one of many of the events that the Feed Our Heroes foundation hosts throughout the year. Many Veterans do not receive benefits that are adequate when it comes to medical expenses and daily living, more often than not, many go without adequate food, or do not have the means. Hollywood works year round to make sure that there is enough food to go around, “Any of the left over portions also get donated to the Springfield Soup Kitchen to help those in need in the community,” explained Hollywood.

This year there will be a special guest, among several, a World War II Pearl Harbor Veteran to join the tables of discussion and let those know what it really meant to serve during wartime. “This is more than a dinner. This event is a gathering of family and friends who share a common understanding as well as a comfort to know that they are not alone,” explained Hollywood.

When asked what was the driving force behind doing all of the philanthropy work that he does every year, not just the dinner, Hollywood simply replied, “The local Veterans deserve respect, too few people understand what Veterans, their spouses, children and parents go through on a daily basis.”

Hollywood has taken the steps to make certain that the Feed Our Heroes foundation continues in the future with local business and individual support. Many of the local business have shown their support, including Jackson, Lytle and Lewis Funeral Home, located at 2425 North Limestone Street in Springfield, who donated funds for the dinner. Other area businesses who show their support are Springfield Health and Fitness, Kroger, Kutrite Manufacturing and Triec Electrical Services in Springfield, Ohio as well as the Friends of Brandon foundation. All of the donations from this year’s event, will go onto support the Feed Our Heroes dinner next year. During the year, Veterans and their families may contact the foundation when they are in need of food assistance or advocate services
